British Labour Party Rebels Call For Prime Minister Brown To Step Down

After two high level resignations in the past 24 hours, the British Labour party seems to be in shambles. Both Home Secretary Jacqui Smith and Communities Secretary Hazel Blears have announced that they will step down in the upcoming government reshuffle, showing a lack of confidence in Brown’s leadership, and prompting Tory leader David Cameron to ask, “Why doesn’t he accept that his ability to command his cabinet has simply disappeared?” Rebel Labour members of parliament seem to agree, and are circulating a letter calling for Gordon Brown’s resignation through parliament in an attempt to resuscitate the ailing Labour party. If their plan succeeds, a new Prime Minister could be installed as early as the first week in July.
