![]() Van Jones |
Just days before his White House appointment, Van Jones, President Obama’s environmental adviser, used a forum at a major youth convention to push for what can easily be interpreted as a communist or socialist agenda.
As WND previously reported, Van Jones, special adviser for green jobs, enterprise and innovation to the White House Council on Environmental Quality, is an admitted black nationalist and radical communist.
Jones’ appointment was announced on March 10.
Two weeks before he started his White House job, however, Jones delivered the keynote address at Power Shift ‘09, which was billed as the largest youth summit on climate change in history. A reported 12,000 young people were at the D.C. Convention Center for the event.
During his speech, available on YouTube, Jones threw around terms like “eco-apartheid” and “green for some,” and preached about spreading the wealth while positing a call to “change the whole system.”
In one section of his twenty-minute speech, Jones referenced “our Native American brothers and sisters” who, he claimed, were “pushed,” “bullied,” “mistreated” and “shoved into all the land that we didn’t want.”
“Guess what?” Jones continued. “Give them the wealth! Give them then wealth! No justice on stolen land … we owe them a debt.”
“We have to create a green economy, that’s true, that’s true. But we have to create a green economy that Dr. King would be proud of,” he exclaimed.
Jones spoke about using what he termed an environmental revolution to push for other policies, including anti-war activism.
“If all you did was have a clean energy revolution, you wouldn’t have done anything. … You’ll have bio-fueled bombers and we’ll be fighting wars over lithium for the batteries instead of oil for the engines,” he said to applause.
“This movement is deeper than solar power. … Don’t stop there! We are going to change the whole system!” he exclaimed.
The White House did not return multiple WND requests the past few weeks seeking comment on how Jones was screened for his position and whether the White House knew of his admitted radical past.
Jones on 9-11: Blame U.S. ‘imperialism’
Last week, WND reported one day after the 9/11 attacks, Jones led a vigil that expressed solidarity with Arab and Muslim Americans as well as what he called the victims of “U.S. imperialism” around the world.
Jones was the leader and founder of a radical group, the communist revolutionary organization Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM. That group, together with Jones’ Elle Baker Center for Human Rights, led a vigil Sept. 12, 2001, at Snow Park in Oakland, Calif.
STORM’s official manifesto, titled, “Reclaiming Revolution,” surfaced on the Internet.
A WND review of the 97-page treatise found a description of a vigil that Jones’ group held Sept. 12, 2001, at Snow Park in Oakland, Calif. The event drew hundreds and articulated an “anti-imperialist” line, according to STORM’s own description.
The radical group’s manual boasted the 9/11 vigil was held to express solidarity with Arab and Muslim Americans and to mourn the civilians killed in the terrorist attacks “as well as the victims of U.S. imperialism around the world.”
“We honored those who lost their lives in the attack and those who would surely lose their lives in subsequent U.S. attacks overseas,” STORM’s manifesto recalls.
Also, WND obtained a press release of Jones’ vigil, dated Sept. 11, 2001, and titled, “People Of Color Groups Gather to Stand In Solidarity With Arab Americans and to Mourn the East Coast Dead.”
“Anti-Arab hostility is already reaching a fever pitch as pundits and common people alike rush to judgment that an Arab group is responsible for this tragedy,” stated Jones in the release hours after the 9/11 attacks.
“We fear that an atmosphere is being created that will result in official and street violence against Arab men, women and children,” he said.
Last week, Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck drew attention to a section of STORM’s manual that describes Jones’ organization as having a “commitment to the fundamental ideas of Marxism-Leninism.”
“We agreed with Lenin’s analysis of the state and the party,” reads the manifesto. “And we found inspiration in the revolutionary strategies developed by Third World revolutionaries like Mao Tse-tung and Amilcar Cabral.”
Cabral is the late Marxist revolutionary leader of Guinea-Bissau and the Cape Verde Islands.
WND previously reported Jones named his son after Cabral and reportedly concludes every e-mail with a quote from the communist leader.
STORM’s newsletter boasted “we also saw our brand of Marxism as, in some ways, a reclamation.”
STORM worked with known communist leaders. It led the charge in black protests against various issues, including a local attempt to pass Proposition 21, a ballot initiative that sought to increase the penalties for violent crimes and require more juvenile offenders to be tried as adults.
Speaking to the East Bay Express, Jones said he first became radicalized in the wake of the 1992 Rodney King riots, during which time he was arrested.
“I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th,” he said. “By August, I was a communist.
“I met all these young radical people of color – I mean really radical: communists and anarchists. And it was, like, ‘This is what I need to be a part of.’ I spent the next 10 years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary,” he said.
Trevor Loudon, a researcher and opponent of communism who runs the New Zeal blog, identified several Bay Area communists who worked with STORM, including Elizabeth Martinez, who helped advise Jones’ Ella Baker Human Rights Center, which Jones founded to advocate civil justice. Jones and Martinez also attended a “Challenging White Supremacy” workshop together.
Martinez was a longtime Maoist who went on to join the Communist Party USA breakaway organization Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, or CCDS, in the early 1990s, according to Loudon. Martinez still serves on the CCDS council and is also a board member of the Movement for a Democratic Society, where she sits alongside former Weathermen radicals Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.
STORM eventually fell apart amid bickering among its leaders.
Jones then moved on to environmentalism. He used his Ella Baker Center to advocate “inclusive” environmentalism and launch a Green-Collar Jobs Campaign, which led to the nation’s first Green Jobs Corps in Oakland, Calif.
At the Clinton Global Initiative in 2007, Jones announced the establishment of Green For All, which in 2008 held a national green conference in which most attendees were black. Jones also released a book, “The Green Collar Economy,” which debuted at No.12 on the New York Times’ bestseller list – the first environmental book written by an African American to make the list.
Jones, formerly a self-described “rowdy black nationalist,” boasted in a 2005 interview with the left-leaning East Bay Express that his environmental activism was a means to fight for racial and class “justice.”
Jones was president and founder of Green For All, a nonprofit organization that advocates building a so-called inclusive green economy.
Until recently, Jones was a longtime member of the board of Apollo Alliance, a coalition of labor, business, environmental and community leaders that claims on its website to be “working to catalyze a clean energy revolution that will put millions of Americans to work in a new generation of high-quality, green-collar jobs.”

Obama, AKORN, SEIU Buses are running, Where’s the money coming from ?
He’s Not MY Doctor ,,, lets put these stickers on all our cars!!!
| Benefits of the H1N1 “swine” flu scare – Dave Kopel is wearing one of those surgical masks around the office. The women here are saying the place never looked better.
He’s Not My Doctor! Remember those anti-Bush bumper stickers that read, “He’s not my President”? Well, I am pleased to announce that we at the Independence Institute recently debuted our new awesomely awesome “He’s Not My Doctor” bumper stickers. If you’d like to show the world that Obama is not your doctor, email Mary MacFarlane at mary@i2i.org and send her your name, address, and primary email account, and we’ll send you a brand spanking new bumper sticker – free of charge! PS – Due to the overwhelming demand, please limit your requests to just 2 per household. Thanks! Free our health care: Our brilliant Health Care Policy Center director Linda Gorman alerted me to a couple great health care links. First, we have the Free Our Health Care Now online petition, that some 732,000-plus people have already signed. Let’s help spread the word to our elected officials that we do not want a government takeover of our health care. As much as some may want to see doctor’s offices resembling the DMV, I prefer that didn’t happen. Second, we’ve got the Conservatives for Patient’s Rights website, which has a large amount of important links and resources. And of course don’t forget our Patient Power Now blog, written mostly by health care policy analystBrian Schwartz, with special guest appearances by Linda Gorman herself. Be sure to check out the John Goodman Health Policy Blog, where Linda is a featured writer. Does Obama care violate the constitution? That’s the question posed by Independence Institute Senior Fellow and constitutional law expert Rob Natelson (and the answer appears to be a big, fat yes). Guest blogging over at The Cauldron, Rob lays out what he calls “profound” constitutional difficulties with “empowering the federal government with decisions over the life, death, and health of three hundred million Americans.” Not only does Rob find constitutional issues with a federal takeover of health care from an “Originalist” perspective but also points out several glaring issues in the context of modern Supreme Court jurisprudence. Meet the “Second most hated woman in America” (or so says Sean Hannity): Come to our personal legislative briefing with Minnessota Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Join us for an update on all the latest national issues — health care, cap and trade, stimulus and more — on Monday, August 31. RSVP online here. Sexism run amok: Can you believe September 9th will be our 10th Independent Women’s Lunch?! I can’t believe I’ve let the women have this much fun without us. This time the keynote speaker is Lisa Schomp, CEO/President of Ralph Schomp Automotive. RSVP required! Light rail losing its luster with the media? I recently saw a pig fly by my window and I think it had something to do with this Denver Post piece by editorial board member Chuck Plunkett. In an op-ed titled “Prius effect: Energy efficient cars undercut the appeal of light rail,” Chuck cites, and even agrees with some of the work of the Independence Institute’s own Randal O’Toole from the Center for the American Dream. Money quote from the piece, “Light rail–useful from the gritty aired 1970s to not so long ago, when cars drank gasoline like frat boys drink beer–is now obsolete, and a transportation option that our environment can no longer afford.” R.I.P. Rose Friedman: The wife of one of the greatest economists the world has ever known died last Tuesday of heart failure. Rose Friedman, who happens to be a damn good economist in her own right, was believed to have been 98 years young. I’ll never forget the day that I met both Rose and Milton Friedman. I was walking into an elevator as they were walking out. The elevator doors opened and I couldn’t help but blurt out, “Has anyone ever told you that you guys look just like Rose and Milton Friedman?!” To which they replied, “Well, that’s because we are!” And so we went an ate breakfast together. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I mean, it’s on the same level for me as getting to hang out Pete Townshend. It doesn’t get much better than that. Rest in peace, Rose, you and Milton will truly be missed. In honor of both Rose and Milton, I urge you to watch the series Free to Choose, available in its entirety here. Must See TV: What’s the state of property rights in Boulder County? Land use attorney Bob Hoban and Gary Zimmermand of the No Trail Alliance join guest host Jessica Corry on Independent Thinking to discuss the taking of private property in Boulder County to build a nature trail. Tune in this Friday night at 8:30 pm to KBDI Channel 12; repeated the following Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. Perspective: Ex-Independence Institute mintern (minion/intern) Todd Hollenbeck reminds us all of the desperate and shrill tactics opponents of TABOR used to try and scare Colorado voters into saying no to TABOR in 1992. You will probably be hearing some of the same half-truths and outright lies about TABOR soon enough, so check out Todd’s piece, “Your tax dollars: Will they say anything to get them?” Until next week… Straight on Jon Caldara |

The Era of Camelot is Over!!
The REAL Obituary:
The Kennedy you will not hear about this week as the media tells you what a great man he was.
The Last of The Kennedy Dynasty
As soon as his cancer was detected, I noticed the immediate attempt at the ”canonization” of old Teddy Kennedy by the mainstream media. They are saying what a “great American” he is. I say, let’s get a couple things clear & not twist the facts to change the real history.
1. He was caught cheating at Harvard when he attended it. He was expelled twice, once for cheating on a test, and once for paying a classmate to cheat for him.
2. While expelled, Kennedy enlisted in the Army, but mistakenly signed up for four years instead of two. Oops! The man can’t count to four! His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, former U.S. Ambassador to England (a step up from bootlegging liquor into the US from Canada during prohibition), pulled the necessary strings to have his enlistment shortened to two years, and to ensure that he served in Europe, not Korea , where a war was raging. No preferential treatment for him! (like he charged that President Bush received).
3. Kennedy was assigned to Paris , never advanced beyond the rank of Private, and returned to Harvard upon being discharged. Imagine a person of his “education” NEVER advancing past the rank of Private!
4. While attending law school at the University of Virginia , he was cited for reckless driving four times, including once when he was clocked driving 90 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood with his headlights off after dark. Yet his Virginia driver’s license was never revoked. Coincidentally, he passed the bar exam in 1959. Amazing!
5. In 1964, he was seriously injured in a plane crash, and hospitalized for several months. Test results done by the hospital at the time he was admitted had shown he was legally intoxicated. The results of those tests remained a “state secret” until in the 1980’s when the report was unsealed. Didn’t hear about that from the unbiased media, did we?
6. On July 19, 1969, Kennedy attended a party on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts . At about 11:00 PM, he borrowed his chauffeur’s keys to his Oldsmobile limousine, and offered to give a ride home to Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker. Leaving the island via an unlit bridge with no guard rail, Kennedy steered the car off the bridge, flipped, and into Poucha Pond.
7. He swam to shore and walked back to the party, passing several houses and a fire station. Two friends then returned with him to the scene of the accident. According to their later testimony, they told him what he already knew – that he was required by law to immediately report the accident to the authorities. Instead Kennedy made his way to his hotel, called his lawyer, and went to sleep. Kennedy called the police the next morning and by then the wreck had already been discovered. Before dying, Kopechne had scratched at the upholstered floor above her head in the upside-down car.
The Kennedy family began “calling in favors”, ensuring that any inquiry would be contained. Her corpse was whisked out-of-state to her family, before an autopsy could be conducted. Further details are uncertain, but after the accident Kennedy says he repeatedly dove under the water trying to rescue Kopechne and he didn’t call police because he was in a state of shock. It is widely assumed Kennedy was drunk, and he held off calling police in hopes that his family could fix the problem overnight. Since the accident, Kennedy’s “political enemies” have referred to him as the distinguished Senator from Chappaquiddick. He pled guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, and was given a SUSPENDED SENTENCE OF TWO MONTHS. Kopechne’s family received a small payout from the Kennedy’s insurance policy, and never sued. There was later an effort to have her body exhumed and autopsied, but her family successfully fought against this in court, and Kennedy’s family paid their attorney’s bills… a “token of friendship”?
8. Kennedy has held his Senate seat for more than forty years, but considering his longevity, his accomplishments seem scant. He authored or argued for legislation that ensured a variety of civil rights, increased the minimum wage in 1981, made access to health care easier for the indigent, and funded Meals on Wheels for fixed-income seniors and is widely held as the “standard-bearer for liberalism” In his very first Senate roll, he was the floor manager for the bill that turned U.S. immigration policy upside down and opened the floodgate for immigrants from third world countries.
9. Since that time, he has been the prime instigator and author of every expansion of an increase in immigration, up to and including the latest attempt to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. Not to mention the pious grilling he gave the last two Supreme Court nominees, as if he was the standard bearer for the nation in matters of “what’s right”. What a pompous ass!
10. He is known around Washington as a public drunk, loud, boisterous and very disrespectful to ladies. JERK is a better description than “great American”. ”A blonde in every pond” is his motto.
Let’s not allow the spin doctors make this jerk a hero — how quickly the American public forgets what his real legacy is.
We must prepare for 2010,,,, we should start with this issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdtqtfXdR-c

Glenn Beck: Who is writing Dems massive bills?
August 24, 2009 – 13:14 ET
![]() Glenn Beck is seen here on the Insider Webcam, an exclusive feature available only to Glenn Beck Insiders. Learn more… |
GLENN: Yeah. So anyway, the thing that I did tweet about was the healthcare, and everybody said, “Oh, look, he’s given up on healthcare. They’re going to go back and retool.” And I wrote, “Do not party. Don’t celebrate this.” Nothing they’re going to come back now and they are going to try to compromise. Nothing. Where’s the audio? “You shall not pass!” We must be like Gandalf and nothing, nothing can be allowed to pass.
GANDALF: You shall not pass!
GLENN: Tonight you will understand why because I’m going to show you what wrote the bill. It was not Nancy Pelosi. It wasn’t Barney Frank.
Do you remember, do you remember I said back in February, this is too outrageous, it’s too big, it’s too complex. Who’s writing this stuff? “Oh, well, you don’t understand Rahm Emanuel.” This isn’t Rahm Emanuel. “David Axelrod.” It’s not David Axelrod. This is much, much bigger. Well, it has taken me months to track it down, but it is the Apollo Alliance. Let me just give you a few of the people that are part of the Apollo Alliance. These are bios from the website. Phil Angelides has made his mark in California. Oh, I bet he has. Former California state treasurer from 1999 to 2007 and Democratic nominee for governor of California in 2006, Mr. Angelides has been a leader in the movement for sustainable economic progress. Keyword that you must learn: Sustainable economic progress. Why is “Sustainable” important?
STU: That’s usually in conjunction with green. Usually “Sustainable energy.”
PAT: All during the Seventies
STU: It’s expensive.
PAT: everything was not sustainable. The progressive movement of the Seventies was, oh, we can’t sustain this population, we can’t sustain this economic growth.
GLENN: It is sustainable development is code language for and if you look at the history of it, it’s been population growth Zero Population Growth. It has been zero expansion. It is code language, and this is why, if you understand this one concept, then you will begin to understand why these things are being done because the people behind them, the progressives are zero development, Zero Population Growth people.
PAT: And look how effective they are.
GLENN: I know. Well, I mean, he’s been a leader in the movement for sustainable economic progress and he was the state California California state treasurer from 1999 to 2007. Who better to understand sustainable economies than the guy who was the treasurer of California? He mobilized investors across the nation to usher in a new era of corporate, social and environmental responsibility.
Then you have Frances Beinecke or something, president of Natural Resources Defense Council. She has been instrumental in curbing global warming, she is a member of the boards of the Wilderness Society, China U.S. Center For Sustainable Development and the New York League of Conservation Voters. Just giving you some of the highlights here.
Robert Borosage, president of Institute For America’s Future. He writes widely on political, economic and on national security issues for the nation. He has served as issues advisor to progressive political campaigns including Carol Moseley Braun, Barbara Boxer and Paul Wellstone. He also was a senior issues advisor for Reverend Jesse Jackson. Then on the board of the Apollo Alliance, these are the people that wrote the stimulus package: Leo Gerard, United Steel Workers of America. He is developing strategies to inject the rights of workers into trade agreements. Gerard is a driving force behind Heartland Labor Capital Funds, a network in creating conceptual, financial and educational tools for capital strategies that will inject the welfare of workers into the investment priorities.
Then you have the Executive Vice President of SEIU, Gerald Hudson. Founded the School For Social Change. He’s a long time champion of environmental justice. Key words, environmental justice. He has served on the board for Redefining Progress.
We have Mindy Lubber, the president of Ceres, I think, and I have to look that back up. I looked it up last night and it’s frightening stuff. She was senior communications director for Mike’ Dukakis. She held for a decade a position with a Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group.
We have Nancy McFadden. She was vice president of public affairs of PG&E. She has served eight years in the Clinton administration to chief deputy deputy chief of staff of President Al Gore. Let’s see. She’s a Bay Area native. She has was appointed to the California state Senate and two governors to serve on the California Medical Assistance Commission.
We have the president of LIUNA, the Laborers’ International Union of North America, Terence O’Sullivan. He is the innovator among the newest generation of labor leaders designed to aggressive and sometimes radical approaches designed to increase the power of working people in the 21st century. He began with more than 500,000 collective bargaining members of LIUNA, the foremost labor movement, reshaping the union, one of the fastest, most aggressive and progressive unions in North America. This is a North American international labor union.
Do I have anybody’s attention yet? How about Carl Pope? He was the executive director of the Sierra Club. He served on the boards of California League of Conservation Voters. The National Clean Air Coalition, the California Common Cause. Public Interest Economics, Inc. and Zero Population Growth. He was also the political director of Zero Population Growth.
Dan Reicher, Director of Climate Change and Energy Initiatives for Google’s venture called Google.org. He makes investments in advanced policy in the areas of climate change and energy development and global health.
Joel Rogers co founded the Apollo Alliance and served as its first chairman. He is a professor of law, political science and sociology at the University of Wisconsin Madison.
I mean, I’ve got pages and pages and pages and pages of these people. The field director, Ron Ruggiero, field director, he has joined in 2008. He was 15 years organizing, representing and negotiation experience in the labor movement. He comes from SEIU. Most recently as staff director at SEIU, Local 49.
We have Shanelle Smith, a recently named 2009 Ohio political leaders fellow by the Center for Progressive Leadership. We have Joel Thomas. He was Missouri Jobs with Justice. He was with Missouri Campaign for Change. Do you see?
PAT: You are just about to get to the people from the Heritage Foundation here, who served in the Reagan administration? Maybe the first H. W. Bush White House?
GLENN: Now, if you have play John Conyers again from the audio vault where John Conyers says, why should I have to read the bill?
CONYERS: I love these members that get up and say, “Read the bill.” What good is reading the bill if it’s 1,000 pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?
GLENN: This is not incompetence. This is not arrogance. This is, why do I have to read it; I know who wrote it; I trust them; they know better than I do. That is progressive thinking. You leave it to someone else to administrate. You just play your role. Pass it. Why read it?
