AZ Republicans voice disdain for McCain at state GOP meeting The annual gathering of the Arizona Republican Party Statutory Meeting received a rare visit today. In fact, the arrival of Arizona’s senior senator was so uncharacteristic, many long time state committeemen said they were unable to recall ever seeing him in attendance. Although the McCain sighting was an unusual and aberrant move for him, it is not one he will soon forget. Throughout his speech, chants of “J.D.! J.D.!” referencing his nemesis and unannounced phantom challenger, could be clearly heard among catcalls and hisses aimed at McCain. The popular former Congressman J.D. Hayworth, who enjoys a broad base of support, is being urged to enter the senate race to mount a Daschle-like challenge to McCain. Arizona’s grassroots Republicans are weary of the aisle-crossing “Maverick” and desire actual representation. In fact, a Rasmussen survey of Arizona Republicans reported a towering 61% indicated McCain was “out of touch with the party base.” Several people in the crowd disapprovingly called out “What about amnesty?” during McCain’s speech and other committeemen held up signs that read “Boo” indicating their scorn. The aging senator has had a disconnect with his own party base for so long that he didn’t even bother to attend the state presidential preference primary when his name was placed in nomination for the 2008 election, an overt display of scorn for the very people who brought him to that dance. A year-end Rasmussen Reports poll showed the old, long-time senator in a dead heat with Hayworth, causing the fearful McCain to purchase provocative and negative ads during Hayworth’s drive time radio call-in show on KFYI radio. The tension reached a fever-pitch yesterday, when Hayworth signed off with his final program. The most recent polling after the loathsome and blistering attacks from McCain indicated a downturn in support for Hayworth. That won’t last. McCain, who is adept at sticking his finger in the eye of his fellow Arizona Republicans, is showing fear, causing him to recruit newly elected Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown to make robo calls on his behalf and bringing in Sarah Palin to stump for him. The stench of McFear is palpable. 1. How can you ADMIRE JD Hayworth??? The people chanting his name must be chanting for more spending. & No, McCain is no showing any signs of fear at all. JD doesn’t even fight. Hes a coward & a clown. His only issue is immigration, but unlike McCain, he has never done anything to fight the big-spending in congress or the government intrusion in the private economy. I’M VOTING MCCAIN. but good luck!

    • This is simple. The number one threat to the Arizona Economy ,Budget, and public safety issue is the Border. Additionally a major threat to national security , and the federal debt is the border. Thirty five million Americans voted against McCain/Kennedy Amnesty. Any candidate that supported that legislation will go down in the 2010 elections. A nation with out secure borders is no nation at all. A Nation that does not follow the Constitution and its laws is no Nation. McCain is a Globalist, was a supporter of Nafta and Cafta. And voted for the Wall Street Bailout. McCain has been living off of the unsuspecting taxpayers long enough. Let Cindy support him going forward,.
And one more point,.. McCain flew in Nam,. He should have knowledge regarding the affects of Agent Orange under humid conditions. Having said that when we were losing our forest here because the forest service was dropping slurry in the middle of the day,. He should have stepped up and got in the thick of it. Instead his office said, Buzz off. Go where you wish,.. But electing the same old bought and paid for politicians is next to insanity,.. I followed JD in office and since,.. The one name that doesnt apply is Coward. Here’s the question I have for you how many times have you sent money to the McCain Camp,. My guess is several, therefore you have a financial interest in mccain. In my case I have never sent money to anyone other than Ron Paul, he was the first and will be the last. Its been my experience in 40 years of following politics and government intrusion of our lives that once people start sending money to candidates or parties, it becomes like brand loyality to a paticular make of automobile. Fact is we know that to be true. So one more time , how many times have you sent money to the RNC or McKennedy?

  2. I think you need to do a little more research. I appreciate that JDs office was helpful during the brush fire. But the stuff that Seeing Red AZ said is just ridiculous. It mentions a Rasmussen poll, well the latest one has JD 22 points behind McCain. That’s not out of touch. Everyone “I” know that personally knows JD calls him a blowhard. The only people I know that like him don’t personally know him. That to me says a lot.

There is a lot more I could say, but just let me say one more thing. I was at the state mandatory meeting and was in the auditorium when McCain was speaking. It’s true that a small group of people were chanting “JD… JD…” for about 8 seconds and stopped. That was it. “Throughout his speech” is an extreme oversight of what really happened. I didn’t see in the same article where Senator McCain got multiple standing ovations and a very hearty applause when he was announced and at the conclusion of his speech. That little bit was apparently edited out. Shame.

  3. Adding to Jacklyn’s point, did you know that the congressional staff once voted JD the second biggest blowhard in congress? I personally don’t want someone who’s well known for that representing me… JD should stick to the radio waves, where he belongs, and leave his voice out of the Senate.

    • You may not like his delivery, but his message is dead on. McCain is a globalist as is the RNC,. One World Order, Bush 1&2. Being hung up on a party that lacks the principals of the Constitution and our for fathers will fail going forward . The awakening has happened and is snowballing everyday. Which is I am certain is the motivator behind JD’s decision for stepping up. In fact the Senate needs shook up,. It needs someone in there that will run over the political correctness that plagues that body. The old guard has failed and its time for new leadership not just in Washington but here at home as well , which is why I am running for Governor here in Arizona,. Arizona needs a complete overhaul, 2010 is the window of opportunity for the state if we miss it. This state will see debt and deficits going forward for decades,… Only leadership outside of the corrupt RNC and the State party can we achieve this. Im not attempting to change your position. Thats a waste of time,. But I can tell you from being all over this state the last 3 months.. The Republican and Democrat brands have been destroyed not just at the state level but also the federal level. http://www.bruceolsen4gov.com

  4. Out of touch? Try that survey you referenced…

“A Rasmussen Reports survey this month showed McCain holding a 53 percent to 31 percent lead over Hayworth in a primary matchup.” – Politico, 1/26/2010

What is it they say? Oh yeah, the proof’s in the pudding.

JD might want to toss the towel in already. I mean, I’m sure Arizonans remember that JD was such a popular and powerful congressman (note the sarcasm) that as an incumbent, he lost in a no-fail Republican district in 2006…

  5. Did you know that when he was in Congress, JD was part of the problem in regards to our sinking economy? He had a propensity for voting for massive spending and massive deficits. Not exactly the conservative he claims to be, if you ask me… Arizona doesn’t need a big spender who’s just going to dig our nation deeper, we need someone who’ll promote fiscal responsibility. And the only man who’s standing on that platform is McCain.
